Chauragarh Fort, also called Chaugan Fort, sits on top of Chauragarh, a peak of the Satpuda range, near Chaugan village in Gadarwara tehsil, Narsinghpur district, about 35 km from Gadarwara. The Gond ruler Sangram Shah built it in the 16th century, using thick limestone and boulders, with its face to the east.
A rampart and three gates enclose a pond called Revakund, an old Narasimha idol, the Rangmahal, a pyramidal temple and the palace of the Gond king Prem Narayan Shah. The British damaged the fort in 1816, after which it was abandoned, and it now lies within a forest reserve run by the forest department.
