The story

Burlton Park is a large green space in the middle of Jalandhar city, dating from 1870. It is said to take its name from a British officer, Major David Burlton, who had a hand in the early development of Jalandhar.

The grounds have walking paths, pavilions and old trees, and the park attracts birds, butterflies and squirrels. A banyan (bargad) tree in the park is locally credited with medicinal value. Over the years the park has served the city as a venue for festivals and public events, and it is also said to have been used as a location for Hindi films such as Mera Gaon Mera Desh and Pardes.
