The story
Bileshwar Temple in Porbandar is a shrine to Lord Shiva. Its carved stone walls enclose a sacred lingam, and the setting is calm and devotional. According to local tradition the temple has stood on this spot since the 11th century AD, remaining a centre of worship through many changes of rule and fortune.
Evenings bring chanting and hymns, and the temple is at its busiest on the night of Shivratri, when devotees fill it with cries of "Har Har Mahadev", flowers and incense. Kirti Mandir and Sudama Mandir are among the other sights in Porbandar.
