01 — The story

The story

Bharat Mandir in Porbandar, the city of Mahatma Gandhi's birth, is a temple with no presiding deity. Instead it is dedicated to the nation, and its architecture is meant to express the variety and unity of India.

Inside, artefacts represent the many regions, cultures and traditions of the country, while carvings and displays narrate episodes from its ancient past. The site also invites reflection on the ideals of Gandhi, who grew up in Porbandar, and it serves as a quiet place to pause on a tour of the town.
