The story

Bhimeswar Dham lies on Dakini hill, also called Daini Pahar, near Pamohi in Guwahati, beside Deepor Beel. Devotees regard it as Bhimashankar, one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, which the Shiva Purana places on Dakini hill, though Bhimashankar near Pune makes the same claim and the location remains disputed. Belief holds that Shiva appeared here to slay the demon Bhimasura, son of Kumbhakarna, when he attacked King Priyadharman of Kamrupa at worship; the stream over the linga is said to be the sweat from Shiva's body.

There is no temple building. Instead a hill stream surrounds the linga and water runs over it without pause, and a Ganesha temple stands halfway along the approach, a road through hills, streams and bamboo groves. The site lies about 13 km from Guwahati, reached via Pamohi from NH 37, and Assam State Transport Corporation buses run to it from Gorchuk. On Maha Shivaratri, members of the Brahmon Sobha perform Rudra Yagna and Rudrabhishek.
