The Bhattarika Temple stands on the bank of the Mahanadi River at Sasanga village in Baramba tehsil (formerly Athgarh), Cuttack district, Odisha. Its goddess is Maa Bhattarika, revered as a form of Shakti. Puranic tradition says that Parashurama, facing defeat at the hands of Sahasrarjuna, prayed to Durga, who appeared on this very spot to lend him her divine power.
The temple's calendar of festivals includes Pana Sankranti in April, Dussehra in October and Akshaya Tritiya in May, and Durga Puja is celebrated each year with great festivity.
