The story

Anshupa Lake is a freshwater oxbow lake of about 231 hectares on the left bank of the Mahanadi, across the river from Banki in Cuttack district and roughly 40 kilometres from Cuttack city. It is shaped like a horseshoe and lies among the Saranda hills, fringed by bamboo and mango trees.

In the cold season it becomes a refuge for migratory birds, which come from far away to spend the cold months here. Visitors can hire boats on the lake, and there are facilities for fishing. The lake was designated a protected Ramsar wetland of international importance in 2021.
