The story

Bhand Deva Temple, also called Bhand Devara and nicknamed Little Khajuraho for its likeness to the Khajuraho temples, stands beside a lake inside the 4-kilometre-wide Ramgarh meteor impact crater, about 40 kilometres from Baran, near Ramgarh village in Mangrol tehsil. A plaque at the site states that the Shiva temple, a Nagara-style shrine of the Tantric Shaiva tradition, was raised by Raja Malaya Verma of the Nag dynasty in the 10th century to mark a victory, and renovated in 1162 by Raja Trisna Verma of the Med dynasty.

The temple has a hall, vestibule, spire and base, and the hall's eight large pillars carry figures of yakshas, kinnaras, gods and goddesses, apsaras and amorous couples. More than 750 steps, said to have been built by Jhala Zalim Singh, regent of Jhalawar, climb Ramgarh Hill to two cave temples of the goddesses Kisnai and Annapurna, where a fair is held at Kartik Purnima. The State Archaeological Department protects the site.
