The story

Ayyappan Temple in Siddhapudur, Coimbatore, is dedicated to Ayyappan, who is worshipped here as Manikandan. Its devotees proudly call it the Second Sabarimala, and its pujas and rituals follow the pattern set at Sabarimala. A group of devotees began planning the temple in 1942; the Kumbhabhishekam took place on 24 March 1969, and in 1972 a flagstaff was raised and afterwards sheathed in gold, said to be unique in Tamil Nadu.

In the Kerala manner, the temple has shrines to Ganesha, Bhagavati, Shiva, Guruvayurappan and Muruga, together with a shrine to the Navagrahas. Pradosha, Ekadashi, Karthikai and Sivaratri are among the occasions celebrated here.
