The story

Ashtamsa Varadha Anjaneyar Temple is dedicated to Hanuman and stands in Peelamedu, Coimbatore, near the Hindustan College of Arts and Science. The west-facing image is made from Salagrama stone. Hanuman shows the abhaya mudra with his right hand and holds a mace in the other, while his tail points north, the direction of Kubera; the goddess Lakshmi appears on his right palm.

The deity is dressed in a different alankaram every day. Saturdays bring regular offerings such as Raja Maruthi Alankaram, butter decoration and vadai garlands, and during Purattasi, the Tamil month running from mid-September to mid-October, its Saturdays bring further sevas such as Muthangi and Swarnamayam. At the Tamil New Year 10,008 fruits are presented to the deity.
