Avandha Fort, or Avandha Killa, stands at Aundhewadi village between Nashik and Ahmadnagar, close to Patta Fort, and shares much of its history. On 11 January 1688 a Mughal army led by Matabar Khan captured it and placed Shyamsingh in charge. The Peshwas took it in 1761, and the British won it in 1818.
The climb is difficult, as the rock-cut steps are broken in many places. Apart from rock-cut cisterns and the steps that lead to the highest point, very few structures remain on the fort.
