The story

The Aloyseum is a museum on the campus of St Aloysius College in Mangaluru, Karnataka. Its origins go back to 1913, when Chiapi, an Italian Jesuit, gave around 2,000 kinds of minerals, a herbarium and a collection of Roman coins.

The galleries now range widely: Stone Age tools and a Neolithic stone axe, postage stamps, pieces of the Berlin Wall, drawings by Antonio Moscheni and paintings by European artists, spears and arrows from Abyssinia, telegraph equipment, old musical instruments, a whale skeleton, and domestic and farm utensils of earlier generations. Among the exhibits is the De Dion car that P. F. X. Saldanha of Highland Coffee Works imported, which in 1906 became the first automobile used in Mangaluru, along with the city's first generator.
