The story

Vajrapoha Falls, also called Vajrapoya, lies in mountain forest 8.5 km south-west of the village of Jamboti in Belagavi district, Karnataka, about an hour and a half south-west of Belgaum. Here, on raised ground between the villages of Gavali and Chapoli, the Mandovi, also known as the Mahadayi, plunges up to 200 metres.

The river is fed by streams near Gavali, Hemmadaga, Jamboti, Kankumbi and Talawade, in a part of the Western Ghats that can receive 3,800 to 5,700 mm of rain a year. The falls are at their best after the monsoon, from June to October, while in the summer months of March to May the streams and river can run low.
