The story

Mollem National Park covers about 240 square kilometres at the foot of the Western Ghats in Dharbandora taluka, the largest protected area of its kind in Goa. First known as the Mollem Game Sanctuary, it was formally declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1969 as the Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary. Its forests range from tropical evergreen and semi-evergreen to moist deciduous, with terminalia, lagerstroemia, xylia and teak among the common trees, and temples and sacred sites lie scattered through them.

Visitors can enter by jeep or in their own vehicle with a guide. Leopards, elephants, deer and gaur live here, and rarer animals include the Indian civet, wild dog, hyena, sloth bear, slender loris, flying squirrel and common otter. Devil's Canyon viewpoint looks out over the forest.
