01 — The story

The story

Triveni Sangam lies close to the Somnath Temple complex at Prabhas Patan. Hindu belief holds that the Hiran, Kapila and Saraswati rivers join here before flowing into the Arabian Sea, and the confluence is regarded as purifying. Many pilgrims to Somnath take a ritual bath in its waters, and families come to carry out ceremonies for their ancestors.

Stone steps lead down to the water, where devotees pray and perform rites; the ghats are busiest in the early morning and evening. The spot is especially crowded during Somnath's major festivals. It is easily reached by road from Somnath and Veraval.
