This museum near Somnath Temple in Prabhas Patan holds sculpture and architectural remains recovered from the temples that once stood on the site. Carved stone pieces with decorative motifs are laid out in the galleries and across the grounds, giving a sense of how the earlier structures looked and of the skill of their builders.
Its main exhibit is a 12th-century shrine reassembled with its carved pillars, ceilings and ornament, which historical accounts link to refurbishment under a Chalukyan king. Paintings and displays on Somnath's religious traditions complete the collection. It is easy to see on the same trip as the temple; opening hours should be checked locally.
