The story

Thrippalur Mahadeva Temple stands by the Gayatri river at Alathur, Palakkad district. It is dedicated to Shiva, Krishna and Narasimha, each in a separate shrine, all facing west, and is mentioned in many classics of Malayalam literature. Folklore says Parashurama installed the Shiva idol, and it is part of Kerala's 108 Shiva temples. It was once controlled by the Kavalappara Swarupam.

The Shiva and Krishna sanctums are square, the Krishna shrine of two storeys, while Narasimha's is round, and the two-storeyed carving on Shiva's shrine speaks of its age. The interior is paved with polished granite. Wall paintings on the east side, thought to be about a century old, appear to be the work of a devotee who studied the temple's legends. A large pond lies outside the western gate. Ganapathy and Subrahmanya are sub-deities, and Deepavali Vavu is the main festival.
