The story

Thrikkavu Sri Durga Bhagavathy Temple in Ponnani, Malappuram district, is an old Durga temple of uncertain age, counted among the 108 Durga temples said to have been consecrated by Parasurama. According to the Malabar Manual, Tipu Sultan's army destroyed its idol and turned the temple into an ammunition store; the Zamorin later repaired it.

The goddess has four arms, holding a disc and conch, one hand granting boons and one resting on her hip, and is worshipped in three forms, as Parvati, Lakshmi and Saraswati. The complex also has a Krishna temple, shrines to Mahaganapathi, Sastha, Hanuman and others, and a Moola Ganapathy shrine by the pond with serpent shrines. Navarathri is the main festival, and on Vijayadasami thousands of children are brought for Vidyarambham. A festival also runs through the Mandalam season.
