The Thirupalkadal Sreekrishnaswamy Temple at Keezhperoor, Chirayinkeezhu taluk, Thiruvananthapuram district, is among the oldest Vishnu temples in the region. It was the family temple of the Ay kings, whose capital was at Keezhperoor and whose line later became the rulers of Venad and then Travancore. The Venad king Vallabhan Kotha renovated it in the 9th century, and it is believed that the Kollam Era began with that renovation. The Alvar saint Kulashekhara is also said to have renovated it, and it is listed among the Abhimana Kshethrams.
The central image is a four-armed standing Vishnu with conch, discus, mace and lotus, worshipped as Krishna under the name Thirupalkadal Bhattarakar. The circular sanctum, in an old Dravidian style, shows Brahma and Shiva on its outer wall, and its roof rests on 36 rafters cut in 12 wooden sections, symbolising the 12 signs of the zodiac.
