Thanni Beach lies beside the Kollam Coastal Road, about 10 km from Kollam city, and can be reached from Kollam Beach or from Mayyanad across the Thanni Bridge. It is popular with both locals and tourists.
Tetrapod breakwaters, known locally as pulimuttu, line the shore to soften the waves and create a safe area for swimming. A narrow strip of land is all that separates the beach from Paravur Lake, so visitors can enjoy the backwaters and the seafront within a few steps of each other.
