Tamhini Ghat is a road pass across the crest of the Western Ghats, linking Mulshi with Tamhini and giving a route from Pune down into the Konkan. The ghat section runs for nearly 15 km, between Kolad on the Mumbai–Goa highway and the backwaters of the Mulshi Dam, on a newly laid road. It was proposed as an extra route for Konkan-bound traffic from Pune and Lonavala, through land largely held by Tata Power.
The pass is known for its waterfalls, lakes and thick forest. In the monsoon it turns green, streams run everywhere, clouds hang low and seasonal waterfalls appear beside the road, drawing visitors from far away; October to December is given as the best time to go. Off the road towards the Mulshi backwaters is the waterfall at Palse, now often busy, and Kolad, at the Konkan end, is known for rafting on the Kundalika River. State buses run through the ghat.
