The story

Talwara Jheel is a seasonal lake filling a hollow on the course of the Ghaggar-Hakra River near Tibbi in Hanumangarh district, Rajasthan, beside the village of the same name. It is said to be the only lake in the district's arid landscape, and it fills for just a few months each year when the river floods during the monsoon. It lies between Ellenabad and Hanumangarh town, about 40 km downstream of the Ottu barrage in Haryana's Sirsa district.

The place has a long history. Historians have identified it as the site of the First and Second Battles of Tarain, fought in 1191 and 1192 between Prithviraj Chauhan and Muhammad Ghori, and Timur camped on the lake's banks in 1398–99 after taking Bhatner fort in what is now Hanumangarh.
