The story

Swami Bodhayan Mandir is a Hindu temple in Bongaon village, in the Bajpatti block of Sitamarhi district, Bihar. The spot is said to be the birthplace of Bodhayan, the Vedic sage behind the Baudhayana sutras, an identification made by the Sanskrit scholar Sarvabhaum Vasudevacharya. Devraha Baba laid the foundation in 1956, and village landlords gave 25 acres of land to the temple. A lake, the Baudhayan Sarovar, was also constructed nearby.

The site is also called Bodhayana Tapobhumi. A giant and very old banyan tree known as Bodhayansar stands here and is regarded as the sage's seat of penance. An idol of Bodhayan is kept inside the temple and one of Vasudevacharya outside it, and the premises hold a gurukul teaching Sanskrit and the Vedic scriptures.
