The story

Manokamna Mandir, also called Manokamna Sthan, is a Hindu temple in Kamtaul village, Harlakhi block, Madhubani district, in Bihar's Mithila region. Legend holds that it has stood since the Treta Yuga, and it is tied to the Ramayana. The name means a place where devotional wishes are fulfilled. According to Baba Rambhushan Das Nirmohi, Sita worshipped Girija Devi at Phulhar for 12 years, after which the goddess blessed her and directed her to pray here to have her wishes granted.

The campus includes a Shiva temple, Baba Manokamna Nath Mahadev Mandir, where large numbers of devotees gather on Mondays of the Sravani Mela for Jalabhisheka on the Shivlinga. Other Ramayana-linked places nearby include Baag Taraag Pushpavatika at Phulhar, said to be King Janaka's flower garden, Kalyaneshwar Mahadev Mandir and Vishwamitra Ashram at Bisaul. Janakpur lies about 13 miles away by road.
