The story

Haleshwar Sthan is a Hindu pilgrimage site with an ancient temple to Shiva, 7 km north-west of Sitamarhi town in Bihar. Local belief holds that King Janaka of Mithila set up a shivling here when beginning the Haleshti Yagna, performed to please Shiva.

The temple around the shivling came in the 17th century and took the name Haleshwarnath temple. Pilgrims can reach it on a bus run by the Mahavir Mandir Trusts, which links it with Punaura Dham, Panthpakar and Kapileshwar temple in Nepal. The service sets out in the morning and returns to Punaura Dham in the evening.
