The story

Sumargad is a rarely visited fort in Ratnagiri district, about 19 km east of Khed. No villages lie around it, and the trek in passes through remote forest, starting either from Mahipatgad or from Rasalgad. Little is known of its history.

Sheer cliffs surround the fort on every side, and its fortified area covers only 1–2 acres. The top has many rock-cut cisterns, two of which hold clean drinking water, and a cave sheltering a Shivalinga. From the summit the neighbouring forts of Mahipatgad and Rasalgad can be seen, along with Chakdev and Parvatgad.
