The story

Subhas Sarobar, known locally as Beliaghata Lake, is an artificial lake and public park in the Beliaghata area of eastern Kolkata, next to EM Bypass. Named after Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, it was developed from a natural depression in the 1950s, and the complex now covers about 73 acres under the Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority.

Paved paths around the water draw walkers and joggers, and landscaped gardens and seating suit families and picnickers. Migratory and resident birds come to the lake, and boating has been offered from time to time. Thousands of devotees gather for Chhath Puja. Like many urban lakes it suffers from pollution and encroachment, and has seen desilting and other restoration work. Salt Lake Stadium is the closest metro station.
