The story

The Songadh Jain temple is a historical complex in the town of Songadh, Bhavnagar district, in the Saurashtra region of Gujarat, 8 km from Sihor and 28 km from Bhavnagar. Songadh's importance comes from Kanji Swami, a Jain mystic and teacher who turned to the Digambar path here in 1934 and stayed for about forty-five years, making it a leading pilgrimage place for Digambar Jains.

Eight temples make up the complex. The first was the Svadhyaya Mandir, or study temple, built in 1937 of white marble, its walls engraved with the teachings of Kundakund. The Jinendra Dharmasabha houses a samavasarana of Simandhara, and its murals show true doctrine flowing like a stream from Simandhara to Kundakunda and on to Kanji Swami. The Paramagam Mandir, or Temple of Sacred Texts, has the Samayasara carved on its walls. Samadhi temples honour Kanji Swami and Champa Ben, and a 41.5-foot idol of Bahubali was installed in 2010.
