The story

Vanarashi Vav is a stepwell near Vavdi village in Ghogha taluka of Bhavnagar district. An inscription records that it was built in 1902 (Samvat 1958), in the time of the Vavdi ruler Devani Nathubhai Godadbhai, by Maganlal and Parmananddas in memory of their late father Vanarashi Jadavji, a Kapol Vanik from Bhavnagar.

In 2018 the stepwell was set to be buried under the new Bhavnagar–Veraval Highway. Villagers opposed the plan for about a year and a half, and in the end a bridge was built over the well instead. Restored, it was inaugurated on 19 May 2019 by Vijayrajsinh Gohil of the former Bhavnagar ruling family. The well runs east–west, with its entrance on the west and the shaft on the east, and has carved details and arches.
