The story

Singhanath Temple is in Gopinathpur village, Baramba tehsil, Cuttack district, Odisha, and can be reached by road from Cuttack, Athgarh and Banki over the new Mahanadi bridge. It is dedicated to Shiva, who is worshipped here by Narasimha, an avatar of Vishnu, and its sculpture draws on both Saivaite and Vaishnava traditions. A survey places it in the early 9th century, and it represents an early stage of the Pancharatha Deula of Kalinga architecture.

The temple has a rekha deula and a jagamohana with a terraced roof. A Shivalinga with yonipatta sits in the garbhagriha and, in keeping with the Panchayatana style, temples to Vishnu, Ganesh, Surya and Mahishamardini stand around it. Maha Shivratri, Makar Sankranti, Dussehra and Kartik Purnima are the main festivals, and the place is also chosen for Upanayana ceremonies and weddings.
