The story

Sheetla Mata Mandir in Gurugram is dedicated to Sheetla Mata, also known as Mata Masani, a goddess worshipped for protection from smallpox and other infectious illness. Tradition holds that King Mangaldev, a follower of the goddess, enlarged the shrine as an act of gratitude, and it has drawn pilgrims for centuries.

The building mixes Rajasthani and Mughal elements, with carved surfaces and a domed roof. Its courtyard carries frescoes and marble figures drawn from Hindu legend, and the goddess's image sits in the inner sanctum. Sheetla Ashtami is the main festival here, marked with special rituals and offerings. The temple also runs a free langar open to everyone, along with medical camps and charitable programmes.
