01 — The story

The story

The Seven Sisters Waterfall is a tiered waterfall in the forested hills north of Gangtok, beside the highway into North Sikkim. The water drops through the trees in a series of falls, and the spot is a common halt for travellers heading towards Mangan and the high valleys.

The name comes from a local legend. Seven sisters from the heavens are said to have come down to bathe here and, unwilling to leave the place, stayed for good, their tears turning into the streams of the falls. The path to the falls runs through damp forest, and the noise of the water is heard well before the falls come into view.
