Rangana Fort, also called Prasiddhagad, stands on the Sahyadri crest in Bhudargad taluka of Kolhapur district, right on the boundary with Sindhudurg, and is counted among the district's important forts. King Bhoj II of the Shilahara dynasty built it in the 12th century. Mahmud Gawan of the Bahmani kingdom took it in 1470; it later passed to the Sawants under the Adil Shahis, and Adil Shah's commander Rustum Jaman seized it from them in 1658.
In December 1664 Shivaji captured Rangana after a run of surprise attacks on the forces of Bijapur and the Desais, and Jijabai's campaign took it again on 15 August 1666. The rulers of Karvir held it until the British arrived in 1818. The approach from Patgaon village passes the ashram of Mouni Maharaj, whose blessing Shivaji sought in 1676 before his southern campaign, and an old Bhadrakali temple. On top are two gates, a large lake and a temple of the goddess Ranganai Devi.
