The Ranakpur Jain Temple, dedicated to Adinath, the first Tirthankara of Jainism, is one of the holiest and most important pilgrimage sites for the Jain community. It is often visited together with Kumbhalgarh Fort.
The temple was raised in the 15th century by Seth Dharna Sah, a Jain merchant. The story goes that a vision told him to build a shrine to Adinath. When he put the plan to Rana Kumbha, the ruler gave him a large tract of land and urged him to found a town beside the temple. The work is said to have taken 50 years, and the result is a huge structure covered in fine carving that shines in the sun.
