Rajgarh Fort, also called the hill fort, stands in the Aravalli Hills near Rajgarh town in Alwar district, Rajasthan, at about 479 m. Jaipur's Kachwaha ruler, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh, built it during the 1730s and 1740s as a defensive garrison that strengthened Kachwaha power in the region.
In 1771 the fort passed to the Naruka Rajputs under Raja Pratap Singh Naruka, who took control of Alwar State with British support. Under the Narukas, Rajgarh served as the capital of Alwar until the seat moved to Bala Quila, and the royal family of Alwar used the fort as a summer retreat. Now a ruin, it is looked after by the Archaeological Survey of India.
