Rachakonda Fort is in Samsthan Narayanpur mandal of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, around 70 km from Hyderabad. It was built around 1360 by Anapotanayaka of the Recherla Nayakas, son of Singamanayaka, a commander under the Kakatiya king Prataparudra. Anapotanayaka moved his capital here from Anumagallu, today's Amangal, and his brother Madanayaka ruled a junior seat at Devarakonda.
At its height the Rachakonda kingdom reached the Godavari in the north and Srisailam in the south. Its rulers shifted their loyalty between the Bahmanis, Vijayanagara and the Gajapatis of Orissa, and fought long wars with the Reddy kings. In 1424 they sided with Vijayanagara, and the Bahmani sultan Firoz Shah retaliated, so that by 1433 only a few forts remained to them. With Gajapati help they won back their forts by 1461, but as tributaries, and the Bahmanis annexed the kingdom in 1475. The fort can be reached from the highway via Choutuppal or from the Nagarjuna Sagar road via Ibrahimpatnam.
