01 — The story

The story

Queen Victoria Pavilion, in the One Town area of Visakhapatnam, is home to a bronze statue of Queen Victoria and is counted among the oldest statues in the city.

Its story begins in 1900, when two local landholders travelled to Britain: Raja Ankitam Venkata Jagga Rao of the Yambrum Estates and Raja G.V. Jugga Rao, Zamindar of Shermuhammadpuram. As they set off for home, the British Government presented them with the bronze figure of the queen. It was intended as a gift for the city, so the two brought it back and had it installed in One Town, where it is found today.
