The story

Punit Van, meaning 'holy forest' in Gujarati, is a botanical garden in Sector 19 of Gandhinagar, Gujarat's capital. The state forest department developed it in 2005 over several acres, planting nearly 3,500 trees at its founding, each chosen for its astrological meaning in Hindu tradition and linked to a star, planet or zodiac sign.

The garden, promoted as one of the city's main tourist attractions, is laid out in themed sections, among them the Nakshatra Van for the stars, the Rashi Van for the zodiac signs, the Nav Grah Van for the nine planets and the Panchvati Van.
