The story

Porur Ramanatheswarar Temple is a Shiva temple in the western Chennai neighbourhood of Porur, built by Kulothunga Cholan II during the Chola period. Of the nine Navagraha temples in the Tondai Mandalam, this is known as the Guru sthala, linked with Guru or Brihaspati.

The main deity is Lord Ramanatheswarar, with his consort Shivakamasundari, and there are separate shrines to Dakshinamurthy, Bairavar, the four chief Nayanmars, the Navagrahas and Shani. Although a Shiva temple, it follows the custom of Vaishnavite temples in giving sadaari and theertha to devotees. The sacred tree is a neem on the southern side of the corridor. The annual brahmotsavam takes place in May.
