The story

Parvati Temple is a modest 10th-century Chandela shrine in the Western Group at Khajuraho, standing to the southwest of the Visvanatha Temple within the UNESCO-listed group of monuments. It is dedicated to the goddess Parvati and surrounded by greenery.

The temple first had a sanctum and a porch. The porch has been lost, while the sanctum survives on its original plinth and has since been restored. A figure of Vishnu on the doorway lintel points to a Vaishnava link, and inside the sanctum the image of Gauri, a form of Parvati, stands with her mount, the godha or iguana. The outer walls are carved with scenes from Hindu mythology and everyday life.
