The story

Parithiappar Temple, also called Bhaskareswarar, is a Shiva temple at Paruthiappar Koil in Keezhvengainaadu, on the road from Thanjavur to Pudukkottai. Shiva is worshipped as Parithiappar and Parvati as Mangalambikai. The shrine is also known as Paridiniyamam.

Surya, the sun god, is believed to have worshipped Shiva here, which gives the temple both its Tamil name, Parithiappar, and its Sanskrit one, Bhaskareswarar, each referring to the sun. The village that grew up around the temple took its name from it. The temple is one of the Paadal Petra Sthalams praised by Tirugnanasambandar in the Tevaram.
