The Kothandaramar Temple at Punnainallur, near Thanjavur, was built between 1739 and 1763 CE and sits very close to the Punnainallur Mariamman Temple. It is one of the 88 temples of the Thanjavur Palace Devasthanam, now run by the Tamil Nadu government's Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department.
In the sanctum stand images of Kothandaramar, Sita and Lakshmana made of shaligram stone, which a Nepalese king gave to the ruler of Thanjavur. The temple has a rajagopuram, balipeetam, flagstaff, prakara, front mandapa and vimana. Around the prakara are shrines to Sakkarattalvar, the Alvar and Anjaneya, along with the temple tree, and the walls carry paintings of scenes from the Ramayana.
