01 — The story

The story

Panjpulla, whose name means five bridges, lies about 3 km from Dalhousie, where a stream flows under five small bridges among pine and deodar trees. The stream starts on the north side of Dayakund, runs through a ravine and supplies water to Dalhousie and Balloon. A memorial here to freedom fighter Sardar Ajit Singh, uncle of Bhagat Singh, has his bust, plaques on his work and landscaped gardens.

Satdhara Falls sits next to it and is named for the seven springs that feed it. Local legend credits seven sages with blessing the water, which is held to be healing because of mica, locally called gandhak. Evenings are popular for the sunset, and the falls run fullest in the July to September monsoon.
