The story

Bharmour is a town about 60 km from Chamba. The lower slopes below it are covered with orchards and terraced fields. The town is rich in legend, and much of its lore centres on Goddess Brahmani, who is held in deep reverence across the area.

One story says the land where Bharmour stands was once her garden. She came to be worshipped as a deity after her spirit, together with those of her son and his pet bird, began to trouble the local people. The town's name is thought to come from hers, and another tale says that even Shiva had to bow to her power.
