01 — The story

The story

St. Patrick's Church is the largest church in Dalhousie and stands in the cantonment on Military Hospital Road, past Balloon Falls and about 2 km from the main bus stand. British army officers built it in 1909 for troops stationed in the town, and it is now run by the Catholic Diocese of Jalandhar.

The dressed-stone building is in Gothic style, with tall windows, carved woodwork, a large altar and stained glass showing Bible stories. Its big hall is lined with carved pews, gardens surround it, and around 300 people attend on Sundays. The church also hosts community meetings and cultural programmes.
