The story

Panakkattodil Devi Temple is an ancient Durga temple at Chavara Thekkumbhagom in Kollam district, managed by the Travancore Devaswom Board. Its origins are unrecorded, but it is believed to be about 1,000 years old. Tradition says a wandering young Brahmin met a skilled carpenter, Koyippurathu Nambeesan Aasari, and together they planned the temple; the carpenter built its base and the Brahmin invoked Bhadrakali there. It was built on the property of the Valayaappallil family, and the Travancore government took it over in 1946.

The Thalappoli on Meda Bharani and the annual festival in April and May are popular. Kollam railway station is 18 km away, and a KSRTC bus station stands within the temple complex.
