The story

Panagal Archaeological Museum stands in the grounds of the Pachala Someswara temple at Panagal village in Nalgonda district, about 1.3 km from the Chaya Someswara temple. Opened in February 1982, the complex covers nearly 3 acres.

Its collection of some 640 pieces includes sculptures, prehistoric tools, coins, bronzes, beads, weapons and copper-plate inscriptions, dating from the 2nd to the 18th century CE. Many come from excavations at Vardamana Kota, Yeleswaram, Phanigiri and Panagal itself, and others from the State Museum in Hyderabad. Among them are images of Hindu deities from the Andhra Ikshvaku period of the 3rd century CE and Shiva lingas rescued from villages drowned by the Nagarjuna Sagar dam. Some items are shown in an open-air gallery, but most are inside the building.
