The story

Pallimanna Siva Temple is at Kumbalangad, a small village on the Kumbalangad–Kanjirakode road near Vadakkancherry in Thrissur district, on the bank of the Aloor river, which rises from the Vazhani dam. Shiva is the main deity. The square temple is an example of classical Dravida style in Kerala, and its conical roof is sheathed in copper.

The ASI declared the wall murals a protected monument of national importance in 1983. Dating from the 17th or 18th century, they show subjects such as Shiva and Mohini, Shiva as Kirata with Arjuna, Mahalakshmi, Saraswathi, Dakshinamurti, Shiva defeating the demon Jalandara, the coronation of Rama, Indra with many eyes and Krishna lifting Govardhana and subduing Kaliya. One panel carries old Malayalam script naming the painter and his teacher, which helps date the work.
