The story

In Palakkad district, beside the road from Pattambi to Guruvayur, stands the dilapidated Kattil Madam Temple. It is believed to have been a Jain shrine, put up around the ninth or tenth century AD.

Built in the Dravidian style, the shrine shows influences of the Chola and Pandya traditions and is topped by an alpa-vimana superstructure. The Archaeological Survey of India protects it, though press reports have described the Chola-era shrine as neglected.
