The story

Overbury's Folly, a seaside park with a watchtower, lies less than a kilometre from Thalassery, a trading town on the Malabar coast in Kannur district. It is named after E. N. Overbury, a local judge in Thalassery in the 1870s, who in 1879 set out to build a picnic spot on the cliff. He never finished it, and the place came to be called his folly.

The site looks out over the Arabian Sea. Since being done up for tourists, it has become a favourite evening haunt of local people, who come to relax and watch the sunset, and an open-air coffee shop has opened by the sea.
